Viscoplastic Modelling of Unsaturated Geomaterials

چکیده
In this paper a rate dependent model for unsaturated geomaterials is presented. The formulation and numerical predictions are compared with available experimental results and discussed. The constitutive laws for the description of the time-dependent mechanical behaviour of saturated and unsaturated geomaterials generalize the isotach approach to the elastoplastic strain hardening based constitutive laws for unsaturated soils . The formulation encompasses rate and creep effects together with suction dependency on creep. Some perspectives about the constitutive modelling of time-dependent behaviour of saturated and unsaturated geomaterials, including soft rocks are proposed.

On elastoplastic damage modelling in unsaturated geomaterials
In the context of nuclear waste disposal, the modelling of the behaviour of host rocks and soils still needs improvement. Unsaturated porous geomaterials exhibit particular behaviour when exposed to suction. Their non-linear behaviour may result from two different processes, plasticity which induces irreversible strains and damage which causes a deterioration of their elastic properties. Many e...
متن کاملModelling of Water Flow and Solute Transport in Double Porosity Unsaturated Media: Theory, Two-scale Computations and Experiments
“Multi-scale, multi-components, multi-phases” are the key words that characterize the double porosity media, like fissured rocks, aggregated soils or composite geomaterials, subject to environmental conditions. In relation to this context an integrated upscaling approach to the modelling of water flow and solute transport under unsaturated conditions in double porosity media, is presented. The ...
متن کاملThermo-plasticity of Soils at Various Saturation States: a Constitutive Model
This paper presents a highly-coupled thermo-plasticity model for unsaturated soils. The effect of temperature on the mechanics of unsaturated soils is briefly addressed. Then the equations of the developed model, so-called ACMEG-TS, are detailed. Finally, the model is validated by the means of comparisons with experiments. This constitutive model constitutes an effective tool for modelling the ...
متن کاملEmbedded strong discontinuity finite elements for fractured geomaterials with variable friction
The strong discontinuity approach to modelling strain localization, combined with an enhanced strain element, has been used for more than a decade to model strain localization in materials including geomaterials. Most implementations of enhanced strain elements in the post-localization regime use very simple constitutive formulations along the discontinuity, such as linear softening or a consta...
متن کاملModelling of Fluidised Geomaterials: The Case of the Aberfan and the Gypsum Tailings Impoundment Flowslides
The choice of a pure cohesive or a pure frictional viscoplastic model to represent the rheological behaviour of a flowslide is of paramount importance in order to obtain accurate results for real cases. The principal goal of the present work is to clarify the influence of the type of viscous model-pure cohesive versus pure frictional-with the numerical reproduction of two different real flowsli...
